About the scholarship
The Swedish Agricultural Engineering Association (JTF) established an annual scholarship at its 2019 Annual General Meeting, awarded to a degree project in engineering/technology at the Master's level. The purpose of the scholarship was, and remains, to highlight and place greater focus on technological factors relevant to agriculture, food production, and the food industry. Particular emphasis is placed on theses addressing applications with significant potential for implementation in Swedish agriculture, including both crop and animal production. A nominated thesis does not necessarily need to explicitly address technological issues within the food value chain but must demonstrate relevance for companies operating within the sector, both in primary production and in subsequent stages of the chain. **Background** Over the past decade, technological development in society has accelerated significantly. This applies to both machinery and IT systems, which are increasingly being integrated. This has made it clear that technological factors directly linked to production processes are becoming increasingly important for the value chain that influences the development potential and competitiveness of the food sector and agricultural enterprises. Typical examples include prototype development, integrated and advanced IT solutions, logistics, and related fields. **The Scholarship** The scholarship amounts to SEK 30,000 and is awarded for a degree project completed at a Swedish university or university college. The project must be at the Master's level or equivalent. **Jury** A jury appointed by the JTF Board of Directors may consist of the following members: ● Chair of JTF ● Secretary of JTF ● Three academic members holding senior lecturer and/or professor qualifications within engineering and technology disciplines at Swedish universities and university colleges. **Nominations and Rules** ● Nominations may be submitted by the author of the thesis, the supervisor, or the examiner. ● The thesis must be at the Master's level (D or E level) or equivalent. ● The thesis must address issues within the fields of technology, physics, chemistry, logistics, information technology, operations research, or related disciplines. ● The thesis must, in a broad sense, address technological aspects related to some part of the food value chain, from primary production through to consumption. Consequently, the thesis does not need to explicitly concern issues within the food value chain, but its relevance to technological development within the sector must be demonstrable. ● To be eligible for the scholarship, a nominated thesis must have been approved by the examiner during the calendar year preceding JTF's Annual General Meeting. ● Nominations must be submitted by email together with the nominated thesis and contact information to: “JTF Scholarship”. A confirmation that the nomination has been registered should be received. If not, please contact the JTF Secretary. ● The nomination deadline is 31 January preceding JTF's ordinary Annual General Meeting. ● The jury will announce its decision before the Annual General Meeting. ● The jury makes its decision by a qualified majority. ● A jury member shall not participate in decisions concerning a scholarship recipient whose thesis was presented at an institution where that jury member is employed. ● The jury’s decision cannot be appealed. ● The scholarship will be awarded in connection with JTF’s Annual General Meeting. The authors are expected to participate in the Annual General Meeting or at the Association’s Technology Seminar.
